Friday wasn't as bad as thursday but it still wasn't great. The first few periods were great and 8th and 10th periods were chatty again. We played Math-o and it was a lot of fun. It's kind of like bingo, except instead of calling numbers, I would say a subtraction or addition problem twice and the students would work out the problem in their heads or on paper. Then if thier answer was on their Math-o board they would put a chip down to try and make a row, column, or diagional. Once they got Math-o they would get a prize and we would continue the game until a few of the students won. Everyone was having a good time some of the kids got out of hand a few times but we had established "STOP. Look and Listen" which worked out well. The kids seemed to like it and got a lot out of it.
Today was awesome. 3, 4, and 7 were ok. 7th period was chatty, again. 8th period was a lot calmer then they have been the past few days but they were still chatty. At the end of the period we had a few minutes left so i told the students to pack up and stay in their seats. So a few students thought it was free time and started to walk around. So I told them they needed to take their seats and wait for the bell to ring. A few of them continued to stand then the bell rang. I yelled at them all to sit down, some of them looked at me as if i had 5 heads. I told them again to sit down and that we were all going to wait to leave until everyone had taken their seats. After everyone sat down I waited about 5 seconds and told them all to have a good day =)
Other then that the lessons went really well. We had a fire drill 3rd period and it threw off my timing. We worked on multiplying negative integers and it went really well for all 5 periods. The kids really understood the patterns and how i was connecting it to what we were going over. We had another fire drill 10th period and that threw me off even more. We didn't get through all of the matterial 10th period but other then that it was ok. We'll do a wrap up tomorrow and the kids will be back on track.
Tomorrow will be a little more of a challenge dividing integers will be more fun since there won't be direct patterns to show the students. lots of examples and it'll sink in, just in time for it to escape their minds on 3 field trips and a weekend =)
