Orientation

Today was my first day of work. I was required to be at the curriculum building at 8 am. There were several other new employees, district employees, and principals there, including my own. We were given a lot of information about what to expect over the next year. We were also given our school laptops and information about logging into our school accounts. After this meeting We met briefly with our mentors. My mentor does not feel like she is going to be much help. We were told that it is important to take attendance within the first 10 minutes of class. My mentor told me she's really lazy about taking attendance and she'll show me how she does it. We are also required to go to certain staff development days with our mentor. Our meetings are at 3 and last about an hour. My mentor told me she doesn't do anything over the summer and only works within her contracted hours, 715-315.

After our brief meeting we headed over to the high school to meet with the principal, the dean of students, athletic director, and the school secretaries. It was a lot more information thrown at us in only a short time. We were asked if we had any questions and we all said no, for the time being and I'm sure there will be questions later on as we progress through the school year.

Monday and Tuesday are more orientation days then the students come on Wednesday! I'm doing pretty well planning for Algebra. I have the standards for College Algebra, but no textbook or other information to use. Should be fun come Wednesday!
